Why should I stop swimming for winter? Been doing a bunch of polar swims for 2012. Here's an outing where I was joined by BFF's @Karalligator and Caitlin. We drove down to Scusset Beach at the edge of CapeCod and ran into the frigidly artic waters of NewEngland. After we got out and were sufficiently cold, we ran in again. And remember, it don't count if you don't go under! I'll be swimming all winter long, anybody interested in a polar outting hit me up!

Recommendations to bring:
Puffy Jacket
Smartwool socks
Thermos of HotChocolate/GreenTea/Whiskey, or all three
a friend
a bucket of energy
sunglasses
matches and kindling
emergency contacts
a trained lifeguard (DOM)
and extra undies

And a great start to 2012 here! I went out hunting with some friends this past weekend for the final morning of DuckSeason in Massachusetts. This particular adventure had us waking up at 5 am, trudging through a swamp by headlamp, crossing frozen muddy streams, watching the sun come up on a frigid and frozen morning and spending two hours sitting in swampy bushes; you can imagine I had the best morning ever! We even got to warm up with Spikes special venison stew. Thanks KatieO and friends. Hope there's lots more duck hunting next season!

Kansas! wooooooo-eeeee. Our first day in Kansas had us wakin up in our tent to a blustery, whippin Kansas prairie storm, tumbleweeds literally blowing across the road. The storm held out until after our second gas up, then it came down, wet and heavy and things got slippery. We stopped for burgers and chicken-fried steak @HappyDayDiner in Lincoln Kansas, met some quail hunters, and chained up the rear tires. We spent the rest of the day doing the steady 30mph chain shuffle into Salina, Kansas. Saw lots of folks swervin off the road, crossing the median, and ambulances haulin to the scene.

Clementine(truck) shrugged off the storm like the well seasoned, Montana truck she is. We holed up there in a $35Motel, with Pizza, the internet, and Discovery Channels brilliant show, GunSmoke. What a welcome to Kansas.

Spent the day on long flat roads, no radio in this thing, driving flat out at a steady 70mph across endless country. Wind screaming through the 40 year old windows, makin PB&J, campin at rest stops. Met some great people, lots of meandering, antique shopping, gassing up, peeing in the dirt, ridin the pickup bed.

Camping in the plains of NorthWyoming, woke up to a 14degree morning. Luckily I was burrito-ed in a wool liner inside a 45 degree down bag, inside of a 20 degree synthetic. (thx@PatrickSpain)
We drove through some plains and fields and snowdrifts and tiny towns, saw the Devils Tower, and fell asleep in the Badlands of SouthDakota. NextStopColorado. Gooooo #Camping/Sunsets/Roadfood/TheWideOpenRoad!!!

I'm on the road!
My buddy and fellow photographer/traveler/adventurer/frequentSwimmer, Jarrod McCabe, and I are driving home. We rendezvous-ed in Bozeman, MT, where Jarrod purchased a 1971 Ford F-250 CamperCustom. We are currently on the road and I will be adding photos to describe the road trip. We've also made a pact to be home by xmas and also swim everyday of the trip.

Anybody out there got contacts to stay with? were gonna be Colorado/Kansas/Nebraska soon...Perhaps Kentucky...?

Last weekend I had the honor of accompanying a German writer on a trip to Western Mass to reunite her father with this man, Matthew, a polish forced laborer during WorldWar II, who helped the writers family during the war. They hadn't seen each other in over 60 years. I was asked to take portraits of Matthew enjoying his life at home in Adams Mass for a German Publication. The shot I chose is of him enjoying a cassette of traditional polish dancing music. He usually sits in the afternoon by the window, kicks up his feet and listens to his tapes.

Up to my elbows in apples!!!

Pat and I found this ultra-rare Massachusetts Snake species in Northern MA last week. It acts like a cobra and hisses but didn't bite us at all. Videos to come sooooon.

Who knew? we're not in Kansas. Drove to Springfield MA today for a shoot, found a swimmin hole and this was on the way! Tornado Alley. One month ago today a Tornado tore through this area and cut a path of destruction. Ironically, I found this site while looking on my iPhone for the nearest swimming hole and drove right by all this. My good friend and Photographer Jarrod McCabe was here only yesterday, shooting and talking with the people here. He posted photos and a nice video of the Tornado on his blog...

I've been sitting in one spot all day, watching the changing weather. I watched as the sky went from sunny, to eerily yellow and green to tropical downpour. A few killer twisters hit MA and the storm raged right through Holliston with Tornado Warnings within a few miles from my house. Also watched as a neighbors tree fell in their driveway.

This is Nikki.
